Mother Foucault's Bookshop

The Challenge

This 48-hour campaign challenge for Mother Foucault’s looked to address the problems of awareness and sales over its four years of business. The client had never marketed the business and was averse to any form of online advertising.

The Insight

Our limited research revealed that independent coffee shops around Portland are frequented by patrons of Mother Foucault's and larger book retailers. These locations became our primary means of communicating with consumers.

The Concept

Our concept centered around the idea of an analog blog where the owner could showcase his favorite books with brief reviews on the walls of coffee shops. Quote coasters were also implemented to further promote inquiry into the bookshop.

Analog Blog

We suggested placing his books in shadow boxes among the art that adorns the coffee houses of Portland. The corresponding art card is stylized using Mother Foucault's book stamp and typewriter typeface.
